Growing Lion Leaders 2

Growing a lion leader begins with the new member induction.  They have decided to help their community by joining a Lions Club.  They hear a bit about the International Lions founding and the international services during the induction ceremony. After they receive their pin, the entire club should make them feel welcome.

Next the sponsor or membership chair should have a session with the new member or members.  This should be about the specifics of your club, how the club operates and the service projects, Montana District Lions and the International Lions organization.  Don’t forget about LCIF and answer any questions they might have.

Our “montanalions.org”  website is easy and has an enormous amount of information that will inform them more completely about Lions.  Tell them about the monthly newsletter and encourage them to explore and recieve current news and information.  They can read about what other clubs in Montana are doing for service and might give them an idea of a new service project for your Club.

They should be encouraged to attend the Montana Lions Convention. Unfortunately, I have heard clubs discourage attendance.  I don’t know why this is controversial as it is a wonderful opportunity to meet other lions from not only Montana but from other states and Canada.  If they are reluctant to attend on their own, a club member should offer to attend with them and share some of the expenses.  I found out how great Lions conventions could be by attending my first in Medicine Hat, Canada.  My club elders told me to go.  I went by myself with great trepidation.  What I found is they have a lot of fun, raise a lot of money, and I gained much knowledge about Lions.  I have continued to attend.  I’m still learning.

JUST ASK”  Your friends and new acquaintances.  GROW your club.
